STEWART BOYCE 1937 - 2006 Stewart died peacefully on Sunday, May 21, 2006, surrounded by his wife Carol, his daughter Sara and her husband-to-be Curtis, his son Christopher and his wife Suzanne, and their soon-to-be first child. His last days were filled with messages of treasured memories, admiration and love from a multitude of friends. Thank you all so much for giving Stewart and his family these remarkable gifts of your love and esteem. He was truly a good and kind man, known for his great bear hugs, his quick and always ready sense of humour, his concern for his community, his sense of adventure, his dedication to the needs of children and all those who do not easily share in the benefits of our society, and for his deep and always abiding love for his family. He was the best husband and father in the whole world and a caring friend to many people. Stewart lived his early years in Olds, AB, the son of Archie and Olwen Boyce and brother of Michael Boyce. Relationships from those early days in a small rural community always remained a strong force in his life. He went to Winnipeg for university, met and married Carol and together they earned Masters degrees in Social Work. Stewart's career as a social worker encompassed child residential treatment and child welfare and community development in Winnipeg's core area. He earned the respect of his colleagues and all those whose lives he touched. Stewart and Carol started a new chapter in their lives in 1997 when they moved to Gabriola Island, BC. They both felt they had found their perfect home. These years in this beautiful community have brought new friendships, wonderful travels and adventures, new interests and a strong sense of contentment in this magical place. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Stewart's life will be held on Gabriola in July. If friends wish, donations in his memory can be made to GALTT (Gabriola Land Trails Trust - www.galtt.ca), LITE (Local Investment Toward Employment - www.lite.mb.ca) or the Canadian Cancer Society. He died too soon and too fast. He will live on secure in the hearts of all of us who loved him so dearly.
