Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGUY SUMNER STEINHOFF Peacefully after a brief illness, Guy Sumner Steinhoff passed away on May 20, 2006, at the age of 95 years. He will be lovingly remembered by his son Ray (Mary), daughter Barbara Bell (Davie), and grandsons, Christopher (Laura) and Jeffrey (Michelle). Guy was predeceased by his wife of 60 years Tillie, his parents and two brothers, Russell and Ray. Our dad was born in Winnipeg on March 24, 1911 to Jack and Ethel Steinhoff. He spent his early years in the West End and St. James areas of Winnipeg. Guy attended Isaac Brock School and Daniel McIntyre Collegiate Institute. Upon graduation, he was first employed by United Grain Growers, and then for over 40 years by the City of Winnipeg. He served overseas during the Second World War in the Canadian Armed Forces with the Canloan. Guy and Tillie were married in 1941. After he returned from the services overseas, they bought their first home on Goulding Street, where they lived happily for over 25 years. Guy was a longtime member of the Fort Garry Curling Club, serving as president in 1948. He and Tillie spent many years curling with the Thistle Saturday Niters. As well, Guy enjoyed his league and seniors curling at the Fort Garry. Guy and Tillie were members of the Carman Golf Club where they made many friends. Guy was proud to be an honorary life member of the Fort Garry Curling Club and the Manitoba Curling Association. Guy and Tillie loved travelling, enjoying many trips across Canada and to parts of the United States. Their most memorable trips however were to Great Britain, Europe, North Africa, South America, Hawaii, Australia and Bermuda. Our dad was a kind and patient man. He loved his family above all. In his retirement years, he and Mom spent many happy hours with their family. The family would like to thank the staff at the Grace Hospital, Home Care with special thanks to Suzanne, Victoria Life Line, and the Assiniboine Links, his last residence. A special thanks to Glenn Hynes for all his help. A private family gathering will be held on Friday, May 26. Should friends desire, donations in Guy's memory may be made to a charity of one's choice.
