SIGURTHOR (THOR) BJORNSON It is with great love and sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, Afi, brother and dear friend on Monday, May 22, 2006. He will be fondly remembered by his wife Kristin of 48 years; his children, Darryl (Linda), Tracey (Elvis), Kelly (Ron), Jason (Shelley); 11 grandchildren, Serena, Kara, Tiffany, Justin, Maddie, Zachary, Nicholas, Caelin, Stephanie, Axel, Erik and great-grandbaby Melissa. His memory will be cherished by brothers and sisters, Franklin (Runa), John (Nell), Solrun, Don (Hedy), Margaret (Moe), Siggi (Mary) and; sister-in-law Svienbjorg; in-laws, George Hay, Lilja (Clifford) Holm, David Johnson, and many nieces, nephews and numerous friends. Thor was predeceased by his parents, Ragnhildur and Gudmundur Bjornson; brother Jack; brother-in-law Peter; and in-laws, Jonas and Inga Johnson; and sister-in-law Joan Hay. Born on April 7, 1929 in Framnes, MB, he attended school and worked on the family's farm until moving to Winnipeg in 1957. He worked in construction and then began his career as a Correctional Officer at Headingly Gaol. He retired in 1989 as a duty officer after serving 32 years on the right side of the bars - as he always said. Thor and Kris were married on July 20, 1958 in Arborg. They lived in Winnipeg until dad's retirement and then returned to the Interlake (God's country). Family and friends were always a priority to dad. Over the years much time was spent in Arborg visiting, helping on the farm and hunting with his brothers. Thor will be remembered for his passion and respect for wildlife, his ability to fix' anything mechanical and even knowing what to do with all the leftover parts. Thor was an accomplished Gunsmith and took great pride in his fine attention to detail, creating, repairing and refinishing. He loved conversation and a good political debate. Dad had a tremendous influence on his children and was a solid role model. Afi was special to each of his grand-children always known for his lu lu dance', jeep rides and making us laugh. To describe Thor, one would say he was a man of honor and integrity. He was quiet, passionate, strong and gentle and so deeply loved by all who knew him. Go a nött Afi Memorial service will be held on Friday, May 26 at 1:00 p.m. at the Riverton Hall in Riverton, MB. Flowers are graciously declined. Donations can be made to a charity of choice or the Riverton Hnausa Lutheran Church. NEIL BARDAL INC. 949-2200
