MARJORIE ANN BENNETT It is with great sorrow the family of Marjorie Ann Bennett (Smith) announces her passing on Monday, May 22, 2006 at the Carman Memorial Hospital. She is survived by her husband of fifty years, Howard Bennett; and their children, Leslie, Lynn (Marny), Joanne (Peter); and five grandchildren, Ryan, Kandra, Tyler, Adam and Cory. Her aunts, Ruth Whitford, and Margaret Bachelor both from Winnipeg; and siblings, Ethel Nickel of Lloydminister, Gordon Smith (Sharon) of Regina, and Roy Smith (Nancy) of Gretna. She was predeceased by her parents, Gordon and Thelma Smith of Gretna, and sister Donna Nuytten from Winnipeg. She also leaves many family members and special friends. Mom was born in Gretna, MB on the family farm on June 9, 1932 the third daughter to Gordon and Thelma Smith (Gustafason) and attended school in Gretna until graduating from high school. She then attended nursing school at the St. Boniface hospital where she obtained her Registered Nursing degree and her passion in life. Marj loved to work in the hospital and provide care to all in need during her many years at the Carman Memorial Hospital. Upon retirement from the Carman Hospital she spent her time with her grandchildren and friends on the golf course. Upon Howard's retirement they enjoyed many winters in Arizona golfing and enjoying the winter climate with the company of family and friends. Since her marriage, her favourite place to relax at was the cottage at Moose Lake where she spent many weekends and holidays with family and friends. These are memories that we will all hold close to us. Those who worked with her, still speak highly of her abilities as a nurse and the care that was provided when she was the Head Nurse. These are the same people who have provided her with the best care possible in her final days in the Carman Hospital. Her family is very grateful to the staff at the hospital for providing us with the peace of mind during the times we could not be in attendance. We were always assured that she was being cared to the best of everyone's abilities. A memorial service for family and close friends will be held at Doyle's Funeral Chapel in Carman, MB on Friday, May 26, at 1:00 p.m. There will be a gathering of family and friends at the United House on Friday, May 26, at 3:00 p.m. Donations may be made to the Carman Memorial Hospital or to Cancer Care Manitoba in memory of Marjorie Bennett.
