Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGEORGE WILLIAM McKERRACHER July 17, 1915 - May 24, 2006 Peacefully, in his 91st year at Tudor House Personal Care Home in Selkirk. Dad was born in 1915 at Argyle, MB and attended school at Grassmere and later Brant Argyle. Upon his mother’s death in 1926 he went to live with his aunt and uncle in Kisby, SK and later returned to Argyle to help his father on the farm. During the 1930s he worked for Madsen Gold Mines near Red Lake, ON. In 1942 he married Irene McKague of Inwood. He enlisted in the RCAF and was posted to the west coast of BC where he maintained communication lines for the duration of the war. After the war he returned to farming in Argyle, first as mixed farming and later specializing in a Hereford beef operation. He drove the school bus for the Interlake School Division for 16 years and was very active in the community. He served as a school trustee, an elder at Brant Argyle United Church, sat on the Board of Directors for Manitoba Pool Elevators and South Interlake Credit Union and was a 50 year member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 222. He enjoyed sports and was a longtime member of the Argyle Curling Club. He loved the outdoors and his fishing and hunting pursuits provided many a memorable meal. In retirement he and Irene enjoyed 13 consecutive winters in Texas. He enjoyed horseshoe competitions at which he became very proficient and also participated in shuffling and bowling. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 63 years Irene; son George (Sandra); and daughters, Linda Edwards (Klaus) and Deborah (Don) Baldwin; also grandchildren Darren (Lisa), Kerry (Karen) McKerracher and Jordon and Jenna Baldwin; great-grandchildren Justin, Cameron and Nicole McKerracher as well as many nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 27 at 2:00 p.m. at MacKenzie Funeral Chapel, 433 Main St., Stonewall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, CancerCare Manitoba or the charity of your choice. MacKenzie Funeral Home, Stonewall, in care of arrangements.
