INA ELSA ELGERT On Friday May 26, 2006 after a lengthy illness, Ina Elsa Elgert (Neupert) beloved mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, mother in law, aunt and friend, passed away peacefully at the Selkirk District General Hospital. Ina was predeceased by her parents Edgar and Eureka Neupert, her stepfather Jim Atkinson and her brothers, Ono (Frieda) and John Neupert. She leaves to mourn her daughter Karen Fuchs (Graham), brother Hugo Neupert (Eleanor), grandsons David Fuchs (Tracy) and Colin Fuchs (Chantal), great-granddaughters Ashley, Kaia and Aimi, 3 nieces and 1 nephew. Also left to mourn are her special friends, Verna, Margaret, Milda,Thelma and Alice. Ina was born in St. Laurent, MB in 1918. The family moved to Erikson where she lived until moving to Winnipeg in 1942. She met Dave Elgert while studying Nursing in Portage La Prairie, and they were married shortly thereafter. Daughter Karen was born in 1944. Dave and Ina later divorced, but Ina remained on good terms with Dave and his new family. Ina subsequently completed training as a psychiatric nurse at the Selkirk Mental Health Centre and went on to work at The Winnipeg General Hospital. Later after taking business courses at MTI she worked at the St James Library and then as a secretary at the Winnipeg Grain Exchange. After retiring from the Grain Exchange she worked part time at the St James Salisbury House and at the Assiniboine Clinic. Ina was always busy with a variety of handicrafts. She would turn out countless hand knitted socks, sweaters, blankets and ceramic items which she would take great pleasure in giving as gifts to family and friends. She was an avid collector and had an marvelous collection of dolls, crystal china. She loved animals and always had at least two Cats and a dog. She would refer to them as her kids . She could not bear to see an animal neglected or suffering. The greatest joy in Ina's life came from her grandchildren her greatgrand children, who could always bring out her warm smile. Ina was a generous, gentle, tender, loving person always willing to help those less fortunate than herself. The family would like to thank all of those involved in Ina's care. In particular we would like to thank Dr. Habtu Demsas, Dr. M.I. Hussain, Dr. Eric Badenhorst and Dr. Richard Lindenschmidt, Maralyn MacKay for their expert care. We would also like to thank the Selkirk General Emergency OR staff for all the help they have given Ina. Our special thanks to the nurses and staff on the medical ward whose expert and loving care will never be forgotten. Also thanks to Verna Kaczmar and Edith and Gord Lenton for their help and friendship. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, May 31 at 12:00 noon in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel in Selkirk with Pastor Stan Richards officiating. We will miss you Inee .
