JEAN LOUISE WATKINS (nee MATTISON) After a brief battle with cancer, our beloved Jean Watkins passed away on Saturday, May 27, 2006 at the Health Sciences Centre, surrounded by her family. Jean was born on September 1, 1925 in Halifax, NS where she received her schooling. Upon graduating, she was employed with the Royal Bank. She met Bob in 1945 following the Second World War and they were married in Winnipeg in 1950. Jean was an original member of the Belles and Beaux Square Dancing Club. She was a devoted, longtime member (48 years) of her church. She loved to travel with her husband and was always supportive of his involvement with the Navy League. Jean loved to bake and garden. She was a devoted wife, a caring and compassionate mother and a devoted grandmother. Jean was predeceased by her father James and by her mother Annabelle and by two sisters, Ruth and Doris. She is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Bob. She leaves him in the care of her daughter Debbie Van Der Kraak (Glen) and grandchildren, Lauren, Wade and Jaclyn of Guelph, ON and daughter Sandy Lopushansky (Ted) and grandchildren, Melissa and Garrett of Winnipeg. She will also be lovingly remembered by her sister Shirley Haggarty (Fred) of Ottawa, ON and by her brother George Mattison (Pauline) of Moncton, NB and their children. Her family is thankful for the care given by the health care community. A memorial service celebrating Jean's life will be held 2:00 p.m., Thursday, June 1 at St. Stephen's Anglican Church, 220 Helmsdale Ave., East Kildonan, the Rev. Diane Guilford officiating.
