Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • I am so sorry to hear that he's gone, long before FB came out. Dear Dan! Dan and I lived in the same navy boot camp barricks at Cornwallis, NS. I remember calling out his name at bedtime across the open floor of 60 cubicled neophyte navy pusers in a voice he would instantly recognize and reply in like kind in a nasal kind of mooing fashion. Then we'd laugh. On Sundays when it was time to mandatorily go to church, Dan would hide me behind the pillow and sheet piles on the top of a tall wardrobe styled closet. He was somehow able to get out of going to church by attending to the distribution of linens for the next week. We had a good laugh after the inspecting officer left. From time to time Dan and I would engage in an imprompt wrestling match that usually ended up in me getting a now-called 'rear naked choke' on him that squashed his limbs from grabbing me and releasing him. Because he tended to be overweight, it was fairly easy for my lithe agility to get that choke on him. A few years later when I had returned to my hometown Kenora for a brief stint, I visited Dan and family at a Lake of the Woods cabin to talk and play cards. We remained friends although we lost touch after my resumption of my education. It looks like he stayed in the navy many more years than the 3 years I was in. The very best to you, his family! It would have been good to connect with him again, and thus you also. FB has been good to many of us. To this day I am in touch with another close navy buddy after the same number of decades have slipped by. Too bad Dan's not here to also enjoy it. May he be 'resting in peace.' The very best to you all! - Posted by: Bruce Kehl (Old navy buddy and friend in Kenora, ON during his summer holiday trips) on: Jun 12, 2013
