JOHN (JACK) HARVEY VANCE It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John (Jack) Harvey Vance, on Sunday, May 28, 2006. Jack was born on October 8, 1936 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He was the youngest son of Alex and Ann. Jack began working at a very young age and was always proud of his contributions to the work force. Jack was employed at Merchants Consolidated Ltd. for twenty-five years. It was at Merchants, that he met his wife, Eleanor. They married on September 17, 1960 and shared 45 years of marriage. His son, John, who was born later in Jack's life, was a great source of pride and joy to him. Following the closing of Merchant's Consolidated, he held various other jobs until his retirement. Some of his fondest memories were of his time spent with the Corps Commissionaires at Revenue Canada. Jack knew everyone and everyone knew Jack! Jack was first and foremost a family man. His greatest accomplishment was in helping raise his son John to be an educated, well-mannered and respected man. Jack was passionate about the things he enjoyed doing in his leisure time. Many of Jack's happiest times were spent golfing, with his family, on various courses in Manitoba. Jack, Eleanor, and John took many holidays that he enjoyed reminiscing about at family gatherings. On special occasions, it would always be Jack cleaning up the kitchen after holiday dinners, listening to and enjoying the laughter of family. Jack will always be remembered and sadly missed by his loving wife Eleanor, son John, and daughter-in-law Sonia. He is survived by his siblings Shirley Gray, JoAnn Greig, Roy (Doris) Vance, and Marguerite (Edwin) Benjamin. Also mourning his passing are many aunts, uncles, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews. Jack was predeceased by his father, Alex, his mother, Ann, and his brothers-in-law Bob Gray and Lambert Greig. The family would like to extend a spacial thank you to Dr. John Rabson for his many years of great care to Jack. Viewing will take place at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 1 at the Lutheran Church of the Cross, 560 Arlington St., followed by a funeral service at 2:00 p.m. Internment will take place at Glen Eden Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
