MICHAEL (MIKE) BOJANOWSKI Peacefully, at home with his wife at his side, Mike passed away on May 30, 2006 at the age of 89. Mike is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Maria; daughters Sonia (Kirk) and Lesia (Sheldon); grandchildren Carly, Jennifer, Kori, and Breanne. Mike was born on December 2, 1916 in the village of Zalise Mlynci, Czortkow, Ukraine. During the Second World War he served in the Polish Army. After the war he met his wife Maria and they moved to England where Sonia was born. In 1949 the family moved to Armstrong, ON where Mike worked for the CNR for 12 years. Then the family moved to the north end (which he fondly called north Tuxedo), Winnipeg, where daughter Lesia was born. Mike began a new career working as a cook at the Winnipeg General Hospital for 18 years. He developed a passion and earned a reputation for preparing good food. Upon retiring in 1982, he continued to prepare delicious meals at home for his family right up until the time of his illness. He was also a very dedicated member of Legion #141 for 35 years plus. As a person he was very caring, always willing to lend a helping hand to neighbours, family and friends. His treasures in life were his grandchildren and they equally treasured him and will have many wonderful memories of their gigi. Special thanks to the staff at the Grace Hospital, Dr. Tsang, Dr. Homik and Dr. P. Harris and Palliative Care Nurses for their care and compassion. Prayers will be said on Friday, June 2 at 8:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, June 3 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary the Protectress Ukrainian Orthodox Sobor, 820 Burrows Avenue with Rev. Fr. Dr. Jaroslaw Buciora. Interment to follow in Glen Eden Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mike's memory to CancerCare Manitoba or to a charity of your choice.
