ROBERT RICHARD STAYNER May 21, 1946 May 30, 2006 We are incredibly sad to announce the death of Bob Stayner, who faced his recent diagnosis of cancer with humbling courage. Bob accepted his journey with inspiring strength and calm, and in turn gave us the ability to support him and one another. Bob began life in Saskatoon, joining his parents, Molly and Dick, and elder sister, Penny. Soon after, Maggie and Barbara joined the Stayner family. Sadly, Bob's father died when Bob was 19. His sisters and his mother, helped care for him in his illness and miss him deeply. While studying at the University of Saskatchewan, he met Sandy, his adored wife of nearly 36 years. Their love and friendship is eternal. Not satisfied with the number of mosquitoes in Saskatoon, they moved to Winnipeg and started their family. Barbara, Jennifer and Richard have always known how much their father loved them, and feel incredibly lucky to have won the genetic lottery. Brent Hiebert and Kristine Vacola, whom have joined our family, also mourn his loss. Much-loved granddaughter, Quincy, gave him so much joy. We are aware of our great fortune, and are therefore all the more saddened at its loss. You may know Bob from Great West Life, where he worked planning world-wide incentive conferences, or from Red River College where he worked as a marketing officer for the Department of Continuing Education. Bob was extraordinarily committed to his work, and has never had a better time than during these past years at RRC. He truly believed in the people he worked with, and in the potential of all his students. Alternatively, you may know Bob from War Eagle Lake, ON, his lake-life passion second only to his wife Sandy. Or you may know him from Buxton Road, the house with the superbly decorated Christmas tree, or from East Fort Garry as the man who actually volunteered for the Safe Grad committee, more than once. Bob was enthusiastic and genuine, thoughtful and kind. He listened; he believed in community; he took pleasure in the small things of life. Our heartfelt thanks to all the Nurses and HCAs on 7A West at St. Boniface Hospital, Dr. Ralph Wong, Dr. Marshall Pitz, Dr. Jenifer Ballen, Dr. Virginia Fraser, and the Palliative Care Team both at home and at Riverview. Thank you to all our friends, who helped us with everyday tasks which allowed us to spend more time with our dear Bob. Finally, thank you to everyone who visited and wrote cards. Bob knew how much he was loved. We look forward to seeing all Bob's friends, colleagues and students at his memorial service: Thursday, June 8, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd (204) 982-7550. In lieu of flowers, donations to: CancerCare Manitoba Foundation 1160-675 McDermot Ave., The Winnipeg Humane Society 5 Kent St.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • I just came across Bob's obituary and to say the least I am so shocked and saddened for your loss. I remember so many good times watching our children grow. It's been many years since I moved from Winnipeg to the Vancouver area but I still hold strong memories of all the fun times that we shared as young couples. Sending heartfelt love and blessings to you and your family and if you are so inclined to reach out it would be so wonderful to hear from you. - Posted by: Marilyn Parkin (Friend ) on: Apr 08, 2021
