JAMES LESLIE HUNT August 25, 1953 - May 31, 2006 It is with profound sadness that the family announces the peaceful passing of James Leslie Hunt at Riverview Health Care Centre on Wednesday, May 31, 2006. Jim is lovingly remembered by his wife and best friend Joanne; and his adoring children, Tracey (Rod; children, Cody and Whitney), Kyle and Ryan. He also leaves to mourn his passing his mother Ruth Wheeler; sister Wendy Cabel and her husband Ruben and their children, Lesley and Tim; father-in-law Joseph Stangl; sister-in-law Judith McGavin and her husband Ron and their children, Cameron (child Rob), Michael and Lori. Jim was predeceased by his father Leslie Thomas Hunt; stepfather Ernest Wheeler; and mother-in-law Katherine Stangl. Jim was born, raised and educated in Fort Garry. After graduating from the University of Manitoba with a degree in Physical Education and a Pre-Masters in Education, Jim began his teaching career as a Phys. Ed. teacher at Queen Elizabeth and Archwood Schools. Jim continued his career as Vice Principal of Nelson McIntyre before accepting principalships at Nordale, General Vanier, and Highbury Schools. For Jim, family came first. He dedicated himself to his children through various means, as a mentor, coach and friend. Jim's love for sports and children was evident throughout his life, and was shown through his commitment to his career as an educator, and his dedicated coaching of his children's sports teams. No matter how busy or involved he was with his work or his coaching, Jim always made time to be with his wife Joanne. Their love for each other is never-ending and an inspiration to us all. Jim touched the lives of many through his life's work in our education system, his community involvement with the Victoria-Linden Woods Community Club, and his lifetime of coaching, which began when he was 14, and continued until his last days with us. A celebration of Jim's life will take place on Monday, June 5 at 1:30 p.m. in Fort Garry United Church, 800 Point Rd. at Lyon Street with Rev. Dr. Gordon Taylor officiating. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to all staff at CancerCare Manitoba, especially Linda, Deb and Jeff, and to the Riverview Health Care Centre Staff especially Maureen, Dana and Marta. Words cannot express our heartfelt gratitude to all the friends and family who have supported us through this difficult journey. Flowers are gratefully declined. If friends so desire, donations may be made in Jim's memory to an Educational Trust Fund for Kyle and Ryan with the Cambrian Credit Union; or to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave.; or to Riverview Health Care Centre, 1 Morley Ave. E. We'll love you forever. THOMSON IN THE PARK Funeral Home Cemetery 1291 McGillivray Blvd. 925-1120

  • Jim was a mentor to me. I learned so much. I think about him quite often still to this day… Years after his passing. I also bring up his name in conversation with others, who share my fondness for him. Cheers Jim. - Posted by: David A. Blair (Employee/Colleague) on: Dec 16, 2013
