(RAY) RAYMOND LORNE WEBB August 2, 1931 June 1, 2006 After a courageous battle with cancer, dad completed his life's journey on June 1, and joined his beloved wife of 52 years, Anne. Ray is survived by daughter Linda Dyck (Bill) of Vancouver and sons; Ken (Barbara) of Winnipeg, Patrick (Diane) of Edmonton and Asher Richard of Winnipeg. One of Ray's greatest joys were his grandchildren; Heather (Todd), Ryan, Robin, Meghan (Hussieni), Dylan, Anders, Christopher and Nathan and great-grandchild Riley. Ray is also survived by his sister Beverly Balla (Harold). Ray was predeceased by Anne and parents, Leslie and Laura. Ray began and completed his life in Winnipeg. As a youth and teen he excelled in sports such as baseball, basketball, and lacrosse. He was one of the enterprising, good-time West End Boys , always looking for a little fun and more than once confusing the local pool hall with school. He spent many summers at Victoria Beach, with fond memories of helping his Icelandic grandfather tend his boats and fishing nets. He met Anne on the stairway in the Marlborough Hotel and his life was changed for ever. Inseparable for over 50 years they built their dreams and raised our family. They loved to bowl and play cards, watch sports together and entertain friends. Ray played industrial league fastball and Anne was his biggest fan. Dad backstopped the team and Anne ran the post-game BBQs. Like all dads his children were his greatest joy. He was an ever present spectator at our games and he'd fillet fish faster than we could catch them, sometimes 30 a day!. Ray had a great sense of humour, enjoyed socializing and left a lasting impression with all those who came in contact with him. He was a very caring person, always sending thoughtful cards and sentiments to family and friends. Another of his great loves was music. From 78s to CDs, from the Crewcuts and the Kingston Trio to Neil Diamond and Shania Twain there was always music playing in what ever room he was in. And of course there were his ever present crosswords. His early work years were at Winnipeg Electric and Midwest Diamond Drilling. At Delro Industries and GNC he was a very early adopter of computers in the late 1960's. His career took him to the north, initially to Faro, YT and then Swan Hills, AB. Throughout that time he was very involved with the Lion's Club. All through Mom's struggle with breast cancer Dad was the strength and support for her and our family. His was constantly at her bedside, morning until night, beginning to end. When he moved back to Winnipeg four years ago he became a visible and endearing presence around and about Osborne Village, proudly logging miles on his pedometer. The family wishes to thank all of Ray's doctors, particularly Dr. K. Kemkaran and Dr. M. Lebl (B. C.) as well as the wonderful staff in the palliative care units of Peace Arch Hospital (White Rock) and Riverview Health Centre. Ray will be deeply missed. Good bye Dad, we love you. At Ray's request a private family service will be held, followed by a celebration of his life for family and friends at 10 Tweedsmuir Rd. Thursday, June 8 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation be made to: CancerCare Manitoba Foundation, 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB, R3E 0B9, Re: Prostate Cancer Research. Arrangements entrusted to: VOYAGE FUNERAL HOME CREMATORIUM 1531 Pembina Hwy. 284-7500
