Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryTHOMAS JEFFERSON (JEFF) LIGGETT It is with sadness that the family announces the sudden passing of Jeff at Concordia Hospital, Thursday, June 1, 2006. He was predeceased by his in-laws, Bert and Eileen Roberts and Grace Ruff. Left to mourn are his beloved wife Mary; sister Joyce McQueen (Don) of Keswick, ON; mother-in-law Clara Roberts; special cousins Pat Boyce and Helen Stankey; nieces and nephews, Rae Fraser (David), Laura Chemerika (Don), Blaine Roberts (Dorian) and families of Winnipeg; Blake Roberts (Marlene); Diane Issak (Vic), Carol Warren (Cal), Sue Schindel (Bob) and families of Kelowna, BC; Glenn Ruff (Marian) and family of Vanderhoof, BC. Jeff attended Glenwood and Lord Selkirk Schools, residing in Elmwood until he and Mary moved to their home in North Kildonan. Sports were a large part of Jeff's life whether participating or watching. He was a member of the Elmwood Terriers Lacrosse Team and was named to the Manitoba All Star Team in 1947. He was a horse-racing enthusiast spending time at Polo Park and Assiniboine Downs, enjoying the challenge of handicapping. In 1977, he became an owner in partnership with the late Don Gray and Lorna Gray and was subsequently a member of many partnerships enjoying the relationships he made over many years. Happy days were spent with friends and family watching the horses run and meeting in the tack room following the races. Jeff enjoyed his home and both he and Mary were proud of the things he had accomplished there. Entertaining family and friends was always a pleasure. In 1985 Jeff took early retirement from Canadian Pacific Railway - Weston Shops and travel became a part of their lives. They enjoyed their time spent in Palm Springs, Naples, Florida and Paradise Valley Arizona. Special thanks to the caring and dedicated doctors and nurses and staff in ICU and 3 East. and Dr. S Husarewicz. A private burial will take place with Pastor J Potts officiating. Friends are invited to a reception that will be held on Monday, June 5 at 1.00 p.m. in the reception centre of Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main St. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Manitoba Lung Association or a charity of your choice.
