Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGEOFFERY WILLIAM MCCLAIN 1964 - 2006 In loving memory of Geoffery William McClain who passed away suddenly on February 4, 2006. Geoff was born April 24, 1964 in Red Lake, ON. He lived in Madsen with his parents Bill and Edna and sister Nancy, until 2 years of age. The family then moved to Atikokan. Geoff graduated from the Atikokan high-school going on to receive an honours degree in Economics, with a minor in demographics from the University of Manitoba. Geoff and Karla met in the summer of 1990 and were married on April 5, 1991. They moved to Red Lake in January of 1994 while Geoff was employed with the Red Lake Board of Education. Geoff's passion for Ear Falls became apparent when he and Karla moved there in the fall of 1994. On August 29, 1995 Geoff and Karla became parents with the birth of their son Andrew. Geoff was a very proud and dedicated father to Andrew, even with all the new challenges that the family faced he always focused on Andrew's successes and strived to give Andrew the best life possible. Geoff began his political career in 1997 when he ran for council. He was acclaimed and sworn-in January of 1998. He was very proud to be a part of council and took his roll very seriously. During his time on council Geoff worked very hard on getting the Health Centre up and running again. He felt it was very important to provide the residents of Ear Falls with the ability to seek medical attention in their own community. In 1999 Geoff ran for the position of Mayor in the Town of Ear Falls after his successful election he was sworn-in January of 2000. Geoff worked very hard to make sure Ear Falls received their fair share when the Provincial and Federal Governments were delegating funds. In 2003 Geoff ran as the Liberal candidate in the provincial election. Although he was not successful, he never lost the passion to advocate for Ear Falls. In January of 2004 he accepted the position of Clerk Treasurer for Ear Falls. In everything Geoff did, from his personal life, his career, his activities in the community, he was always dependable, consistent and diplomatic. Geoff was always able to keep his eyes on the big picture and he had the gift of being able to make things happen. Many people in Ear Falls and across the province respected Geoff and would often look to him for ideas on how to make their own communities more successful. Geoff will be sadly missed by his beloved wife Karla; his loving son Andrew; his parents, Bill and Edna; his sister Nancy Russell; step-grandma Mary; his mother-in-law Claudine; sisters-in-law, Nedra, Connie, Brenda and their families, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and many wonderful friends. A memorial service for Geoff McClain will be held on Monday, June 5 at 11:00 a.m. in the Ear Falls Royal Canadian Legion. Interment will be held at a later date.
