Bill was born in Winnipeg. He spent his formative years growing up in St. Vital. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1940, and served overseas in Gander, Newfoundland, for much of the Second World War. There he met the love of his life, Edna Boone, they were married December 25, 1944, celebrating their 60th Wedding Anniversary in 2004. After the war, they returned to St. Vital in Winnipeg, to raise their family of three sons. Bill spent his working career with Canada Packers in St. Boniface where he devoted 41 years to the company rising through the ranks to become one of the supervisors of the plant. He retired to Morden in 1986, to live near his son, Dr. Jeff Ivey and family. He was a devoted family man who loved his boys and grandchildren completely, and almost as much as his dearest Edna. Bill had many hobbies that delighted his family and friends. He was an excellent avid gardener. He created very good wine from a time prior to the advent of the kits. He was an entertaining intergenerational teller of stories of his own composition, the object of which was to either make his audience eat their supper or shed tears. Bill will be sadly missed and never forgotten. The family wish to express their sincere thanks to all his care givers over the recent years (Home Care, Salem Home, Tabor Home and finally BTHC) as Bill struggled through the agony of Alzheimer's Disease to which he finally succumbed. Cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be held at St. Thomas Anglican Church at 131 8th St. in Morden on Saturday, June 3 at 3:00 p.m. with Rev. Brian Minaker officiating. Interment will be held at a later date. If friends so desire, donations may be made in Bill's memory to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, Box 119 Winkler, MB R6W 4A4 or to a charity of one's choice.
