ETHEL MARY NICHOLS (nee MCKENZIE) November 7, 1915 - June 2, 2006 Peacefully, Ethel went to her eternal rest on Friday, June 2, 2006 at the Golden West Lodge in Winnipeg, at the age of 90 years. Left with fond memories are her loving son Michael (Susan); brother Jim, niece Barb (Don); nephews, Russ and Ken; and numerous grandnieces and grandnephews. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Munroe Kempton (Nick); her sister Irene; her brother Ken; and her parents. Ethel was born in Winnipeg, spending her early years in a terrace house on James Street. The family moved to East Kildonan and that is where she made her home until her illness forced a move. She married Nick during the 1950 flood and they eventually bought a house on Linden Avenue. Michael arrived in 1955, making their lives complete. Nick died suddenly in 1964 and Ethel, now a single mother, vowed to raise her son in Nick's house . This she did, with real bravery and a lot of hard work. She worked with Child and Family Services as a home care worker for many years until her retirement. Ethel loved to have fun and had far too little of it in her life. She was musical, could play piano by ear, had a warm singing voice and loved to dance. Ethel was a member of the Sons of Scotland and went to their events whenever she could. She loved dogs and whenever possible there was a dog around. On Thursday, June 8 at 2:00 p.m., Ethel's funeral service will be held in the chapel of the Golden West Centennial Lodge, 811 School Rd. (corner of Ness Avenue and School Road). Tea will be served following the service. Interment will take place at a later date. We would like to thank the staff of Golden West Lodge for taking such sensitive care of Ethel in her last years and her neighbour Janice whose kindness allowed Ethel to live in her own home longer than she might have otherwise. For those who wish, donations in Ethel's memory may be made to the Humane Society. Ethel's arrangements have been entrusted to the Family Owned Funeral Chapel of: WOJCIK'S ALL BELIEFS FAITHS FUNERAL CHAPEL CREMATORIUM 897 - 4665
