MICHAEL JOHN RUSSELL Peacefully on Friday, June 2, 2006 after a lengthy illness, Mickey passed away. Born in Winnipeg August 27, 1929, Michael attended St. Joseph's Catholic Elementary and High School during his youth. His working years were spent at Manitoba Hydro, Inland Cement and Boeing Canada in their Purchasing Departments. He is survived by his wife Sandra; daughters and sons-in-law, Cathy and Glen Nestie, Colleen and Kemal Leslie; grandchildren, Brayden, Riley and Shelbi Nestie and Adam and Megan Leslie; as well as his uncles, Joe and Stan Kostiuk and many cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his father William; his mother Kathleen; his sister Bernadette and his brother Bill. What Mickey enjoyed most was spending time with his family. He adored his loving wife of 42 years and was a wonderful and devoted father and Papa to his children and grandchildren. Throughout his lengthy illness, he was a pillar of strength. We will always remember how hard he fought and throughout all he endured, he remained so selfless, never a complaint, always considering others before himself. He was quiet and shy, genuine and kind, honest and a man of the highest integrity. There are no words to express how we will miss him. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 7, 1:00 p.m. at St. John Brebeuf Parish. Pallbearers are Frankie Kostiuk, Walter Skazyk, Bob Turcan, Todd Jackson, Kemal Leslie and Glen Nestie. Interment will take place in St. Mary's Cemetery on Osborne St., following the mass. The family wishes to thank Dr. Duerksen, his staff and the personnel on the 5th Floor Cardiology Ward of St. Boniface General Hospital for their dedicated care and attention. In lieu of flowers, friends who desire may make donations to the St. Boniface Hospital, Research Foundation, D1-003-409 Tache Ave., Winnipeg, MB R2H 2A6.
