IRENE MAUTHE Peacefully, surrounded by her loving daughters on Sunday, June 4, 2006. She was predeceased by her husband George, sister Ann Zuk and brother John Ostiuk. Cherished memories of her will be kept by her daughter Wendy (Reid) Linney and their children, Blake and Adam; daughter Glenda (Charles) Allain and their children, Nathan, Dominique and Kieran. She leaves one brother Stanley Ostiuk, of Stonewall, MB, as well as many other relatives in Manitoba and Saskatchewan. Since Irene's move to the Toronto area in 1997, she was welcomed into the Allain family and will be missed at their family gatherings. She adored her five grandchildren, and one of her greatest pleasures was cooking and baking for her family. She had a strong faith and was active in the Lutheran Church all her life. She was also very social and had many friends in Winnipeg and Toronto. Irene also had a strong belief in the values of hard work and education. As a young woman, she strived to improve her education despite limited opportunities. Irene and George set an example for their daughters by showing how much you can achieve through hard work and initiative to improve your life. Irene was known for her strong will and determination. She fought cancer bravely for many years, and suffered several heart problems, but simply refused to let these things stand in the way of her love of life and family. She will always be a remarkable inspiration to her family and friends as a caring mother and grandmother, who always sought the best for her family and who would not let anything get in the way of the things she truly loved. The family would like to thank everyone for all their caring and support. A special thanks to her close friends, Barbara Barth and Betty Pamer, for enriching her life with their friendship. A service to honour her life will be held on Friday, June 9 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 10131 Bayview Ave., Richmond Hill. A reception and luncheon will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
