JACK EDIGER 1918 - 2006 Peacefully, at Health Sciences Centre, on June 6, 2006, our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, left this world for a much better place. Left to mourn Jack's passing, are his loving wife of almost 60 years, Mary; son David (Barbara); daughter Dianne (Dave); six grandchildren, Sean, Mark, Dawn, Meagan, Ian, and Jaremy, and three great-grandchildren, Tia, Ethan, and Jason. Also surviving is his brother Willie. He was predeceased by his parents, brother Abe, and sisters Mary and Elsie. Jack was born in Alexandrodar in the Kuban region of Russia on October 21, 1918, to Abram and Anna Ediger. The family immigrated to Canada in 1926, eventually settling in the High Bluff area. Jack was always the studious one in his family and was awarded several scholarships which allowed him to leave the family farm and continue his studies in Winnipeg. During the Second World War, Jack served proudly overseas in the 410 Squadron of the Royal Canadian Air Force. After his discharge from the RCAF, Jack resumed his studies at the University of Manitoba, where he graduated with a degree in Electrical Engineering in 1948. Upon graduation he accepted a position with Winnipeg Hydro, where he remained until his retirement in 1983 after 35 years of service. In 1946, upon confession of his Christian faith, Jack was baptized and joined First Mennonite Church, where he remained an active member for the rest of his days. He served as Church Treasurer for 37 years and his meticulous record keeping and attention to details will remain legendary in the church, for many years to come. Jack was a strong believer in Christian charity and was a generous supporter of many causes both within the church and beyond. While still a student, Jack married the love of his life, Mary Enns, in 1946. Jack and Mary were planning the celebration of their 60th anniversary on June 15, at the time of his passing. The two of them were virtually inseparable for six decades through the good times and the challenges. As the family grew, Jack and Mary loved and nurtured three generations as they came along. Concern for family was always a big part of their lives. In their latter years together, Mary was always foremost on Jack's mind, as he looked after her every need. Jack will be remembered by many as an unassuming man, who went gently through this world and avoided the spotlight wherever he could. His quiet ways touched the lives of many. A life well lived - he will be missed by family and friends. A memorial service will held on Friday, June 9 at 11:00 a.m., at First Mennonite Church, 922 Notre Dame Ave. Flowers are gratefully declined; however donations to the Mennonite Central Committee, 134 Plaza Dr., Winnipeg, MB R3T 5K9, are welcome. Arrangements in care of: KLASSEN FUNERAL HOME 1897 Henderson - North of McIvor - 338-0331
