SYBIL RUTH HENDERSON On Monday, June 5, 2006, at the Riverview Health Centre, with the quiet courage and dignity that she displayed in her lifetime, Sybil gently let go in peace. Left with fond memories are her niece Sandra (Berg), husband Ross Madder and family; as well as her family of friends of long and short term. She was predeceased by her mother Mabel; father William; sister Doris Helen Berg; and brother-in-law Oscar Berg. Sybil was born in the Municipality of Russell, MB on May 4, 1914 to William Harrower Henderson of Scotland and his wife Mabel Henderson (Rea), the daughter of pioneers to the Russell area. She was independent of spirit and all her life was lived to the full garnering great wisdom along the way. Sybil loved to travel and was keenly interested in people, history, current events, art and the natural world around her. Always one to never stop learning, she enrolled at the University of Winnipeg's Division of Continuing Education from the time of its beginning until its current year end. She took great pleasure in drawing and painting particularly in water colors, especially at the cottage at Lake of the Woods. Sybil showed her creativity in sewing, crocheting and needle craft, as well as a life long interest in music. She was a longtime member of Young United Church and for a time a member of the Board of West Broadway Ministry; she was a volunteer driver for the Canadian Cancer Society for 15 years, driving Out Patients to their care. Her career in retail began at Cox's Millinery in Winnipeg, later as manager of a Sally Shop for women's apparel, and then a long career with Henry Birks and Sons, where she was a Buyer / Manager of leather goods and stationery and then Manager of Birks Silver Department until her retirement. Facing her last challenge with peaceful acceptance, Sybil wondered aloud to the doctors and staff of the Palliative Care Unit on the third floor East Wing of Riverview Health Centre of how fortunate she could be to be with them . Surrounded with great love and compassionate care she and we express our deep gratitude and thanks to Dr. Maureen Keenan and the wonderful staff at Riverview and the Volunteer visitors with their therapeutic visits with dogs, Murchie, Carmen and Popcorn bringing their joyful selves which were equally met for pats and snuggles. We are grateful for the support from the Ministry and members of the congregation of Young United Church, where she was a member for almost 55 years. On Monday, June 12 at 3:00 p.m., Sybil's funeral service will be held in Young United Church, 222 Furby St. If friends so wish, in lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the Riverview Health Centre Foundation, 1 Morley Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3L 9Z9 or to a charity of one's choice. Sybil's arrangements have been entrusted to the Family Owned Funeral Chapel of: WOJCIK'S ALL BELIEFS FAITHS FUNERAL CHAPEL CREMATORIUM 897 - 4665
