KATHERINE OKRAINEC (nee MALINOSKY) Peacefully on June 8, 2006, Kay Okrainec, of Lac Du Bonnet, passed away at the age of 92 at Pinawa Hospital. Kay will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her daughter Doris McMahon; son Ken (Joyce) Okrainec; daughter-in-law Helen (Jake) Smiley; her grandchildren, Jack (Sheryl) McMahon, Jim (Beth) McMahon, Burke (Charlene) Okrainec, Peggy (Mario) Beauchamp, Debbie Bell, Becky Okrainec, Marshall Okrainec. Also by her great-grand-children, Michelle and Michael McMahon, Ashley and Brittney Beauchamp, Sage Harbourne, and Erin Okrainec. Kay is also survived by her brother Mickey Malinosky of Victoria B.C. and her sister Lena Okrainec of Winnipeg. Kay was predeceased by her parents, Steve and Anna Malinosky; husband Mike; son Don; daughter Florence; common-law husband Les Kellington; brothers, Mike and John; and sister Mary. Kay was born on January 1, 1914 in Lac Du Bonnet, MB, where she was raised. In February of 1932 she married Mike Okrainec and moved to the farm in Brightstone, where she raised her four children. She later moved back to Lac Du Bonnet where she lived until her passing. Kay developed relationships that she cherished deeply, through work, her recreation and in her faith. Kay's greatest joy was watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow and flourish. Her favorite pastimes were working in her garden, making perogies and pickles for her family and friends. She loved to watch and feed the birds. It was something that her and Les used to together. In later years, she enjoyed making slippers to keep our feet warm. Prayers will be said at 7:00 pm on Sunday June 11 at the Sobering Funeral Chapel, Beausejour, MB. Funeral liturgy will be held on Monday, June 12 at 11:00 a.m. at Notre Dame du Lac Roman Catholic Church in Lac Du Bonnet, MB. with Rev. Fr. James Gray, the celebrant. Interment to follow at Lac Du Bonnet Cemetery. The family would like to thank the staff at Bonny Vista Personal Care Home, Lac Du Bonnet Personal Care home and at Pinawa Hospital, for the care they provided to Kay over the past while. The family would also like to thanks Dr. Greyling for the care and compassion he has shown Kay and her family during this time. A heart of gold stopped beating Working hands at rest God broke our heart to prove to us He only takes the best, Leaves and flowers may wither The golden sun may set But the hearts that loved you dearly Are the ones that won't forget.
