ROBERTA ELEANOR AGNEW (nee BLACK) October 9, 1917 - June 2, 2006 It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother at the Souris Palliative Care Unit. Roberta was predeceased by her parents, Lydia and Steve Black, her husband Joseph and her eldest daughter Joanne Phillips. She is survived by her sons, Maurice (Loraine), Arthur (Patricia), David (Barbara) and daughter Eleanor Slobodian (Cal), son-in-law Keith Phillips, sisters-in-law, Lena and Dorothy Agnew, 17 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. Roberta was born and raised in Hartney, MB. She attended school in Whitewater and Hartney. She married Joseph Agnew in 1938. Together they raised their family on a farm in Hartney. Roberta was a gifted musician, at age 11 she was awarded the Silver medal for Canada in piano by the Royal Conservatory of music in Toronto. She continued to share her talents through teaching piano lessons for many years. She was the pianist at Hartney United church, and entertained with numerous dance bands, as well as at many social functions. She carried her love for music to her family and instilled in all of her children an appreciation of this. Countless hours of enjoyment were spent around the piano in the Agnew home. Roberta was a lifelong member of the United Church an active member of the UCW, Legion Auxiliary, a past member of the Rebeccas and Royal Purple. The family wishes to thank Dr. Cram and the staff at the Souris hospital for all the care she received over the years. Many thanks also goes out to Roberta's wide circle of friends and neighbours for their support especially Win and Dale White and Rev. Beth Mclean. As per Roberta's wishes cremation has taken place. There will be a graveside service on June 17 at 3:00 p.m. followed by a reception at the Centennial Hall in Hartney to celebrate Roberta's life. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Hartney United Church, CancerCare Manitoba, or Souris Health Centre.
