ROBERT (RED) GALLACHER With family by his side, on Saturday, June 10, 2006 at the Portage District General Hospital, Robert Red Gallacher of Oakville, MB, widower of the late Patricia Gallacher passed away at the age of 69 years. Funeral service will be held at the Oakville Knox United Church on Wednesday, June 14 at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. Chuck Ross officiating. Interment will follow at Oakville Cemetery. Red was born on February 22, 1937 in Wingham District, MB to Thomas and Florence Gallacher. He was raised and received his education in Oakville. He had a love for animals and enjoyed spending time at Bray's horse barn. Red also showed a keen interest in truck driving and being his own boss. He married his childhood sweetheart, Patricia Jarvis on October 21, 1961. Together, they owned and operated diversified trucking operations, serving Oakville and the surrounding area. These included Oakville Transfer and Gallacher Trucking Ltd. Portage Transport Service was the partnership of Red and Ron Johnson of Winnipeg. They enjoyed many years of business success and personal friendship. Red and Pat raised two daughters, Jay-Ann and Robyn. Red was a very caring family man and was devoted to his wife during her lengthy illness. He enjoyed hosting family gatherings and watching his granddaughters play in his backyard. He was always giving of his time, helping friends and neighbours and countless young men with their Class 1A driving test. Red believed in his community and in supporting its local businesses. He took pride in his yard and in his vehicles. Predeceased by his parents and his wife Patricia in December 2003. He leaves to mourn his passing his two daughters, Jay-Ann (Bruce) Lloyd of Winnipeg, Robyn (Larry) Poschenrieder of Portage; four grandchildren, Kieran, Camryn, Harlie and Lacey; one sister Mabel (Harold) Brown of High Bluff; one sister-in-law Beverley Jarvis of Victoria, BC; three nephews, Garry, Bruce and Dale, their wives and families; and two nieces, Arlene and Lorna, their husbands and families. He was dearly loved and will be sadly missed by his family and friends. Friends may call at the funeral home for visitation on Tuesday evening, June 13 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Should friends so desire memorial donations may be made to the Knox United Church, Oakville, MB R0H 0Y0 or CancerCare Manitoba, Room ON1160, 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9.
