CST. BARRY GUY STEINTHORSON It is with deepest sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved son, husband and father, on June 10, 2006. Barry Guy Steinthorson, beloved husband of Becky, passed away at the age of 53 years at the Health Sciences Centre. He is survived by his wife Becky and daughters, Jessica and Ashley and extended family Scott, Linda and Kayla, all of Winnipeg, MB. He also leaves to mourn his passing his mother Connie Solon of Kelowna, BC, brother Garry of Vancouver, BC, sister Kandace (Scott Farnam) of New River, AZ and extended family Gary (Sandy) Solon and Steve Solon of Vancouver. Barry was predeceased by his father Guy Steinthorson of Winnipeg and stepfather Bill Solon of Kelowna. Barry also leaves to mourn his passing many relatives, partners and friends he has known and touched in a life cut short. Barry was born in The Pas, MB on March 6, 1953. The first years of his life were spent living in Lynn Lake, MB. At the age of 9, he made the move to Winnipeg with the rest of his family, where he grew up and went to school. Barry began his early adventures by following in the footsteps of his father and uncles, working in the mining industry in Northern Canada. Returning to Winnipeg, he worked at Dominion Bridge and pursued his dream of joining the Winnipeg Police Service. Barry was accepted to the Police Academy, graduating to the WPS in May, 1976, where he spent the next 30 years dedicating his life and formidable talents to raising a family and working for the public. Barry's curious nature and his love of travel led to many wonderful adventures over the years. He also had a great passion for history and thrived on being able to share his knowledge of the world. His favourite pastimes at home were spending hours tinkering in his garage and sitting on his deck deciding which project to start next. The memorial service will take place Wednesday, June 14 at 11:00 a.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St., Winnipeg. Interment will follow on Thursday, June 15 at Mulvihill Cemetery for family, relatives and close friends. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the Health Sciences Centre Emergency and MICU staff for the wonderful care Barry received. A scholarship fund, entitled the Barry Steinthorson Law Enforcement Scholarship, has been set up in Barry's honour. This scholarship will be presented every year to a Sisler High School student who will be pursuing a career in Law Enforcement. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the scholarship fund through the Winnipeg Police Credit Union, account # 1021187, 300 William Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3A 1P9. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • I was totally shocked when I heard from Barry’s colleague that he had passed. I knew Barry while dating his brother Gary, and while he was married to Karen. We shared a lot of good times at Eriksdale, horseback riding, socializing, having as much fun as possible. Barry was generous, kind, and always loved to share a good joke. It doesn’t seem that long ago that all those Eriksdale days happened. My condolences to family, especially you Gary, for this upcoming anniversary of Barry’s departure. - Posted by: Julie Linner (nee McCormick) (Friend) on: Jun 07, 2021
