ERHARD WESTPHAL On Monday, June 12, 2006 at Riverview Health Centre, Erhard Westphal passed away at the age of 77 years. Erhard was born in Alexandria, Ukraine on February 4, 1929. He immigrated to Canada in December of 1949; sponsored by the Krueger family of Morden, MB. Erhard worked on the Krueger family farm until his mother, aunt and two sisters arrived from Germany to live in Winnipeg in 1951. He was then employed at Brett and Young Seed Company of Winnipeg then for Agnew Surpass where he worked first as a salesperson and later as a manager of stores in Winnipeg and Dauphin. Erhard retired from Agnew Surpass in 1982. From an early age, after the death of his father, Erhard assumed a major role in the family as provider. It was a role he carried faithfully and effectively throughout his lifetime. Erhard was an active member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church; having served on council and as envelope secretary in the congregation. Erhard dedicated much time and attention to a special mission project. He promoted in the St. Peter's congregation the collection of used stamps. These stamps were forwarded to the Bethel Mission in Germany in support of handicapped children. They were also forwarded to the Canadian Bible Society to help provide bibles for China, Russia and other projects. In addition, he had a passion for gardening, coin collecting, playing cribbage, family history and correspondence. Erhard is survived by his sisters, Gertrud Bubenzer, and Agnes Smith (Richard) of Winnipeg; nieces, Annette Santili (Angelo) of Winnipeg, Katherine Graham of Albuquerque, New Mexico and Kristel Smith (Joel) of Winnipeg; and nephew Erik Smith (Catherine) of Winnipeg. Viewing will be held from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m., Thursday, June 15 at Neil Bardal Inc., 984 Portage Avenue, Aubrey Street entrance. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, June 16 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 65 Walnut Street. Interment prior to the service.
