MARY CATHERINE CHASE (nee OMICHINSKI) Passed away peacefully on Monday, June 12, 2006 in her 96th year. She is now the guardian angel of her loving husband of 71 years, Norman and her four children, Richard, Robert, Ronald, Mary Ann and their spouses, Patricia, Barbara, Joan and Bruce together with thirteen grandchildren and their partners, Steven (Madeline), Christopher (Theresa), Michael (Kassi), Lisa, Carol, Kevin, Michael (Coreena), Trevor (Stacy), Gregory, Jennifer, Mathew, Lindsey, Kate; two step-grandchildren, Sean (Jennifer) and Michael (Susan); and four great-grandchildren, Austin, Nicholas, Natalie and Lucy; and four step-great-grandchildren Tayller, Bailley, William and Kira. She is also loved and missed by her two surviving sisters, Sophia and Fran (Tim) and her three surviving brothers Aime, Bernie (Mary) and Reg (Ivy); and numerous nephews and nieces. Mary was one of 13 siblings, and as the oldest girl growing up in the farming communities of Beausejour and Portage La Prairie, MB, she had a wealth of wonderful stories to tell about life on the farm, anecdotes of her siblings and their future partners and the cooking and sewing she learned in assisting her mother to look after the ever increasing Omichinski family. She accomplished everything she set out to do and took great delight in raising her family and partnering with Norman in their numerous moves to Moose Jaw, SK and Winnipeg before finally settling in Vancouver in 1982. Mary was active in the community and church. She took pleasure in assisting at a variety of church functions, tea's, bake sales, picnics and in the general upkeep of the church. She assisted where she could and as a long time member of the CWL, she was involved in numerous committees and projects. In Winnipeg, Mary and Norm delivered Meal's on Wheels to those less fortunate and continued to do so in Vancouver well into in their young 80's. She enjoyed people and took great delight in the numerous large family get-togethers. Christmas and Easter were always special times and the parties and dinners she prepared were always something special. Her daughter describes her as a Martha Stewart, before her time . Special thanks to the management and staff of Augustine House/Haven House, an assisted living facility that Mary and Norman moved to in April 2004, for their supportive care and heartfelt devotion and love for Mary during her final few days and for their ongoing assistance, care and support for Norman. The Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, June 16, at 10 a.m. at SACRED HEART PARISH, 3900 Arthur Drive, Ladner, BC with reception to follow. Interment will take place at Gardens of Gethsemani, South Surrey, BC. DELTA FUNERAL HOME (604) 946-6040 On-line condolences to: www.delta-funeral.ca
