OLIVER FRANKLIN LINDAL 1922 - 2006 Peacefully at Boundary Trails Health Centre, on June 13, 2006, Oliver (Oli) Franklin Lindal passed away at the age of 84 years. He was predeceased by his father Ingimar (Ingi) Lindal in 1941 and his mother Sigfridur (Freda) Lindal in 1994. Oli was born April 6, 1922 in the 1-6 district south of Morden where he lived his entire life. He attended Elk Creek and Lindal schools, and in 1943, at the age of twenty one, enlisted with the Canadian Winnipeg Rifles Seaforth Highlanders serving in Italy until wounded and then returning home where he farmed until his senior years. Oli was a kind and gentle man who made friends with everyone he met. He was well loved and highly respected by all who knew him. He loved to visit and tell stories and will always be remembered for his fun loving teasing nature. He was an avid sportsman, enjoying baseball, curling and hunting for many years. He greatly enjoyed gardening and working outdoors. He loved writing letters and keeping in touch with many relatives and friends and enjoyed playing cribbage on many occasions. A highlight in his life was travelling to Iceland in 1998 and planning and attending the 1-6 Icelandic Centennial celebration in 1999. He was actively involved with the Icelandic Cemetery Committee for many years and a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Morden Branch No. 11 for 58 years. Oli was very proud of his Icelandic heritage and often referred to himself as a stubborn Icelander . He will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by all who knew him. A funeral service was held at St. Paul's United Church, Morden on Friday, June 16 at 2:30 p.m. with Doug Craig officiating. Interment followed at the 1-6 Icelandic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Boundary Trails Health Centre Palliative Care Unit, Box 2000, Winkler, MB R6W 1H8.
