JOHN SUSHELNITSKY John Sushelnitsky of Canora, SK passed away peacefully at the Canora Gateway Lodge on June 9, 2006 at the age of 92 years. John was born on February 22, 1914 on the family farm in the Canora district to Michael and Rose (nee Belanchuk) Sushelnitsky. He grew up in the Canora area and left home with his wife Connie (nee Melnychuk) in 1941 to work in the gold mines near Geraldton, ON where their son Johnny was born in 1943. The family moved to Boissevain, MB in 1946 where John took over a gas distribution business. Over the years he owned North Star, General Motors and Massey Ferguson dealerships. Connie passed away in 1990 and in 1993, John returned to his hometown of Canora where she was buried. John had a brother and three sisters living there. After an unfortunate fall in his basement in 2003, John moved into the full care Gateway Lodge nursing home in Canora. John was very helpful to all members of the Sushelnitsky and Melnychuk families. He was president of the Orthodox Church in Kelowna and was a faithful member of the church in Brandon, Kelowna and Canora. His quiet and understanding manner was respected by all those who knew him. He leaves his family with many warm memories of a life well lived. John is survived by his son John (Rosemary) Sushelnitsky of Portage La Prairie, MB; his brother Nick Sushelnitsky of Canora, SK; his sisters, Ethel Strocen and Victoria Bahniuk, both of Canora, SK, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
