Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryKATHERINE DARMOID (KONOWICH) (nee ROZDEBA) September 27, 1915 June 14, 2006 It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of our grandmother, great-grandmother and mother-in-law at the Seven Oaks Hospital on June 14, 2006. She leaves to mourn her three grandchildren, Dennis (Sarah) Konowich, Debby (Dan) Burch, Lisa (Mike) Munson; great-grandchildren, Travis and Christian Konowich and Cole Burch; brothers Stan and Steve Rozdeba; daughter-in-law Violet (John) Troschuk. Katherine was predeceased by her first husband William Konowich; sons Dennis and Eugene; second husband Stepan Darmoid; sister Jessie; brothers Frank and Joe and sister-in-law Rose. Katherine (Our Baba) was born September 27, 1915 in Elphinstone, MB to Martin and Caroline Rozdeba. She was raised on the family farm until moving to Rivers, MB and then to Winnipeg to work as a housekeeper and nanny to supplement the family income. After marrying Bill, they had two sons, Eugene and Dennis. She worked at Winnipeg Cold Storage and later, the Egg Candling Company. After becoming a widow, she was introduced to Stepan Darmoid and they subsequently married. After she married Stepan, she remained at home to help manage the rental suites and to care for her grandchildren. She took great joy in caring for Dennis, Debby and Lisa taking them on outings downtown, Kildonan Park, movies, Ice Capades and summers in Shoal Lake, MB. She and Stepan also took all three grandchildren on a trip to Disneyland and to visit friends in San Diego, CA. Baba was a very proud grandmother who took great joy in seeing and spending time with her great-grandsons. She was always bragging and showing pictures of them to her friends and extended family. Katherine was a very social person, who loved a party, dancing and visiting with people. She also was hardworking and very helpful to her family in any way possible. Thank you to staff at Seven Oaks Hospital especially Dr. Finlayson and nursing staff at Unit 1, 3rd floor. Prayers will be said on Monday, June 19 at 7:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 20 at 10:00 a.m. at the Holy Trinity Cathedral, 1175 Main St. with Rev. Fr. Henry Lakusta and Rev. Fr. Alexander Harkavyi officiating. Interment to follow in All Saints Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Katherine's memory to Holy Trinity Cathedral.
