WILLIAM GUINN SANDERSON It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of William (Bill) Sanderson on June 15, 2006 at the Swan Valley Health Centre, in his 76th year. Bill was born July 3, 1930 in Neepawa, MB and raised in Minnedosa, MB. After graduating from Minnedosa Collegiate, Bill worked as a Conductor / Trainman for CP Rail for nine years. Following this, he apprenticed for two years at the Minnedosa Tribune, previously owned by his Dad. In 1958, he moved to Swan River where he was part owner of the Swan River Star and Times with Jim Bilton. In 1973 he became sole owner until his retirement in August of 1991. Bill was a member of the Swan River Elks Lodge, Royal Canadian Legion, Masonic Lodge and Swan River Shrine Club, where he was President for a year. He was very community minded and always believed that the newspaper belonged to the community. Bill is survived by his beloved wife Kathy of 48 years; daughters, Shelley (Doug) Harris and Marnie (John) Veltri; grandchildren, Amanda and Matthew Harris and Michael and Katherine Veltri; sister Carol (Doug) McCausland; mother-in-law Elizabeth Shorrock; brother-in-law Don (Donna) Shorrock; sisters-in-law, Doris Walker-Tait, Jean Stone and Irene Mansbridge; nieces, nephews, cousins and many valued friends. Bill was predeceased by his parents, Bob and Marion Sanderson; his father-in-law Ralph Shorrock; and brothers-in-law, Allan Walker, Gerald Stone and Eric Mansbridge. Bill's greatest joy was his family. He was a thoughtful, generous friend who had a keen sense of humour. Bill had a great affection for animals and nature, enjoying fishing, hunting and spending time at their cottage at Madge Lake. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service was held Wednesday, June 21 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Andrew's United Church in Swan River, MB with Rev. Murray Wenstob officiating. Inurnment followed at the Birchwood Cemetery, Swan River, MB. Urnbearer was grandson Matthew Harris. Honorary Pallbearers were Jean White, Keith and Betty Riddell, Byron and Doreen Parsons, Jack and Dot Gilsoul, Don and Pearl Quart and Jim Gordon. If friends so desire, donations in Bill's memory may be made to the Community Foundation of Swan Valley Inc., Swan Valley Health Facilities Foundation (Chemo Department), or to a charity of your choice. The family would like to thank the staff at the Swan Valley Health Centre for their care and compassion. Arrangements were entrusted to Jim Webster of Swan Valley Funeral Services Ltd., 363 Kelsey Trail (Hwy 10 North) Swan River, MB. 734-5775.
