Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGORDON WILLIAM BELL Peacefully on June 22, 2006 in his 93rd year, Gordon passed away at River East Personal Care Home. Gordon will be deeply missed by his cherished wife of 65 years, Violet; his loving children, Diane (Dave) Holmstrom, Marylou (Ken) Krawchuk and Gordon (Laura) Bell; his grandchildren, Kris (Tiffany), Mark (Dana), Nadine, Wade, Kimberly, Bryce and Derek; and great-granddaughter Maddie. He was predeceased by brothers, Robert, Donald and Doug Bell. Gordon was born February 21, 1914 and had numerous happy memories growing up in St. James. Gordon went to work at sea as an able Seaman, visiting many ports of call and exotic places. When he returned he met the love of his life, Violet whom he married in 1940. He worked at Bridge and Tank Ltd, retiring after 40 years. Upon retirement, he was able to pursue his many interests such as travel, reading, cross-country skiing and swimming. Gordon was an avid swimmer at Concordia Pool, being recognized for over 1000 kms. of laps. He and Violet travelled within the United States, but fell in love with Cuba. They visited Cuba 18 times, observing the profound changes in the country. Gordon celebrated his 90th birthday in Cuba surrounded by his family and friends. Gordon was active up to the last few years until he developed Alzheimer's disease. He resided at River East Personal Care Home for the past four months where he received wonderful care. The family wished to express their sincere thanks to River East staff for their kindness and compassion. Cremation has taken place. A private family graveside service will be held at Elmwood Cemetery. Flowers are gratefully declined. If you wish, donations in Gord's memory may be made to River East Personal Care Home.
