JO-ANN GAIL FONTAINE (nee COMMERFORD) 1944-2006 It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family announces the passing of their beloved mother and grandmother, Jo-Ann Gail Fontaine, in her sleep, at her home, where she lived for the past 30 years. She will be forever mourned by her children, Bridget (Randy), Dean and Renee, grandchildren, Sarah and Zachary. She is survived by Louis Fontaine, her brother Brent, sister Debbie (Randy), niece Carly, nephews, Aaron, Andrew, and many relatives and friends. Jo-Ann was predeceased by her mother Therese, her father Joseph, her grandfather Zacharie and her grandmother Emily. Jo-Ann lived her life for her children. Although born a city girl, Jo-Ann chose to live quietly and privately with her little dog Elvis, in her country home. Jo-Ann had a big heart for animals. She did not have an easy life due to poor health, but she was strong in so many ways that people will never know. Jo-Ann gave her children many gifts throughout her life, none greater than the confidence and encouragement she forever bestowed on them from the day they were born. Thank you for that mom. We will miss you always. She has found a home with Jesus, whom she prayed to daily. Her children pray that she has finally found the peace she so deserved. Her favorite poem, laminated by her bedside was Footprints and will forever remind us of her: One night a man had a dream. He dreamed he was walking along the beach with the Lord. Scenes from his life flashed across the sky and he noticed two sets of footprints in the sand; one belonged to him and the other to the Lord. When the last scene of his life flashed before him, he recalled that at the lowest and saddest times of his life there was only one set of footprints. Dismayed, he asked Lord, you said that once I decided to follow you, you'd walk with me all the way. I don't understand why, when I needed you the most, you would leave me. The Lord replied, My precious child I love you and I would never leave you. During your times of trial and suffering, when you only saw one set of footprints... That was then that I carried you. A prayer service will be held on Monday, June 26, 2006 at 7:00 p.m. at Desjardins Funeral Chapel, 357 Des Meurons St. At the request of her children, a private burial will follow on Tuesday, June 27, at the St. boniface Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, anyone wishing may make a donation to The Winnipeg Humane Society, 5 Kent St., Winnipeg, MB R2L 1X3 (phone 982-2021).
