CECIL P. R. FIDLER 1928 - 2006 Peacefully, after a lengthy illness, Cecil slipped quietly into the arms of Jesus. Left to mourn his passing, but rejoice in his release are his wife of 56 years, Marguerite, daughter Sheri, son-in-law Scott and beloved grandson Douglas, brother Gerald, sister-in-law Jane as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends. Cecil joins his daughter Christina, son Cecil Douglas, parents Cecil and Christina, stepmother Mary, brother Rae and sister-in-law Peggy in presence of Jesus. Dad was born in Selkirk, spending the earlier part of his life on the East side. The wildness of the back country was always a strong draw for Cecil. There was nothing he loved better than the quietness of nature, with the wind blowing through the trees and bare feet. He was good with his hands and was known as a jack of all trades , fixing machines, finishing basements and general handyman stuff. He had a passion for music, playing guitar, fiddle and the old pump organ. He wrote many songs over the years and delighted in expressing his love for Jesus through music. Dad worked at MRM for many years, then moved to Lakeland Dairies, taking early retirement when they closed. Shortly after his retirement, symptoms of the rheumatoid arthritis began. Through the struggle of his physical limitations, Dad grew ever stronger in his faith for Jesus. As his body weakened, and movement became more difficult, he spent longer with his Bible and in prayer. Once the respiratory illness set in, his mobility was reduced even further. He concentrated much of his attention on his grandson Douglas, on whom the sun rose and set. Dad spent many hours with Douglas, playing as much as his disability allowed and spoiling him in any way he could. While we mourn his passing, there is joy in knowing that it is not goodbye , but until we meet again in Heaven. Through all his struggles, Dad looked forward to the day when he would join the Jesus that he loved for eternity. Our deepest gratitude to Dr. Rick Lindenschmidt and the staff at SGH for their compassion and excellent care of Dad (and Mom) over the past few years. We are also especially grateful to family and friends, too numerous to name, who have been so very supportive whether through practical or spiritual actions. Words cannot express our appreciation. Funeral services will take place at 1:30 p.m. at Selkirk Community Church, 210 Main Street with viewing one half hour prior. Interment and reception to follow. Arrangements entrusted to: VOYAGE FUNERAL HOME CREMATORIUM 18 Main St. Selkirk, MB. 785-1575
