HENRY (HARRY) HARWOOD It is with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of Harry Harwood on June 23, 2006 with his wife June by his side. Also left to mourn his loss is his sisters Mary Harwood, Frances Gallagher, Nan (Con) Cathro, and Agnes (Billy) Grace, all residing in Dundee, Scotland. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Harry immigrated to Canada in 1972 with his wife June and daughter Pauline. He worked for a number of years in the construction field as a carpenter before starting with Winnipeg Minor Soccer Association (Winnipeg Youth Soccer Association) in 1985, a position he held until his passing. Harry devoted his life to the betterment of the game of soccer for the youth of Winnipeg. He was the founder of such tournaments as The Golden Boy, formerly known as the Folklorama tournament, and the Children's Hospital tournament, which continue to attract teams from all over the world. He dedicated countless hours to the development of the game in Winnipeg. He was affectionately known as Mr. Soccer within the soccer community. In his spare time he enjoyed playing golf, watching soccer, and travelling to Kelowna to visit his family. Harry had been frustrated by the personal politics of the game over the past few years and had been looking forward to an early retirement with his family in Kelowna.
