JACK LAPUK October 26, 1923 - June 24, 2006 Peacefully, on June 24, 2006 after a brief illness, Jack Lapuk, passed away at age 82, with his family at his side. He leaves to mourn his death and celebrate his life, his wife Olga and son Daniel of Winnipeg; daughter Karen Mondor (Lorne Pavelick) and granddaughters, Tannis Hensen and Jenna Mondor, all of Regina; nieces, Florence (Wilf) Jordan of Gimli and June (Len) Rowell of Winnipeg; nephew Ed Tokar (Shirley) of Winnipeg and many loving extended family members. Jack was predeceased by his parents, Eva and Stephen; brothers, Joe and Harry and a sister Olga (Steve) Tokar. Jack will always be remembered for his quick, dry sense of humour and as a well-read man with a lifelong passion for knowledge and a keen interest in politics and current events. He volunteered for the NDP and was a tireless worker on many campaigns for the re-election of his Transcona MLA's and MP's over the years. Jack retired from the Winnipeg Post Office in 1987 after 36 years of employment. In earlier years Jack loved to curl and fish - he spent many happy hours casting his line at Lockport and Seven Sisters with friends, Rick Boychuk and Russ Wyatt. He was active as a Cub Scout leader for 30 years with the 3rd Transcona RAMA pack and took great enjoyment in the Cubs he mentored and the friends he made. In recent years, Jack loved going to the Goldeyes games, getting together with his coffee buddies at KP, monthly dinners with his post office pals, perogy lunches with Joe Stefanuk, puttering in the yard and garden, and shopping. Clerks in all the stores were always treated to a candy or two! One of Jack's proudest accomplishments was to have served his country in the R.C.A.S.C. and Algonquin Regiment in the Second World War. He enlisted in 1939 at age 17. His brother Joe tried to have him released, but Jack told him he would re-enlist as soon as he turned 18, so Joe left him be. He served in England, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. Jack was a life member of the Royal Canadian Legion #141. Jack, you will be missed. The family would like to thank Drs. Unger and Penner and the fine nurses at the HSC, CCU and 4H for their compassionate, professional care during Jack's illness. Funeral service to be held on Thursday, June 29 at 2:00 p.m. at the Transcona Funeral Chapel, 1800 Day St. If friends so wish, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association. Transcona Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements. Transcona Funeral Chapel 222-6677
