DOREEN KARVELSON It is with heavy hearts we announce the sudden, yet peaceful passing of Doreen Karvelson, wife, mom, amma, sister, daughter and friend, surrounded by her family at the Health Sciences Center on June 28, 2006 at the age of 62 years. Doreen was born in Gimli, MB in 1944, she grew up on the family farm Mel in Arnes where she completed her schooling before moving to Winnipeg where she worked and lived for many years. On July 4, 1964 she married her best friend, Ingvar. They worked and raised their family in Winnipeg until February 1977 when they moved to Gimli and bought the IGA store. They worked sided by side for the next 29 years. In 2003 they moved to their retirement home in Arnes. Doreen's love of life and laughter was second only to the love that she had for her family and friends. Family was the most important thing to Mom and she showed us that everyday. Doreen had a laugh that was contagious and could never hide the tears of joy and laughter that ran down her face. Her biggest smiles and greatest joys were always saved for her grandchildren. All the songs, poems, movies, games and her presence at every event will never be forgotten and will always be cherished. Her love and kindness will live on in all of our hearts always. Doreen leaves to mourn her loving husband, friend, and partner of 42 years Ingvar; her daughters, Doriane (Paul) Johnson and Kara (Peter) Peiluck; as well as the light of her life, her grandchildren who she lived for, Dawson Johnson and Aurora and Stefan Peiluck. Doreen also leaves to mourn her father Bjorgvin Albertson; sisters and brothers, Florence Albertson, Albert Albertson, Sigurlin (Lloyd) Sigvaldason, Marvin Albertson and Arlene (Kenny) Peterson; mother-in-law Gudrun Karvelson; brothers and sisters-in-law, Valdimar (Theresa) Karvelson, Karvel (Judy) Karvelson and Thelma (Chuck) Hoff. Doreen leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, cousins, aunts and uncles and many many dear friends. Doreen was predeceased by her mother Sigurlin (Lena) Albertson and father-in-law Sigourjon Karvelson. Pallbearers will be her nephews, Kevin Peterson, Mark Sewell, Wes Henry, Blaine Tessier, Einar Einarsson and John Dziad. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, July 2 at 2:00 p.m. in the Gimli Lutheran Church with Pastor Ron Vert officiating. Burial will be in the Arnes Cemetery. Coffee and refreshments will follow the burial at the Gimli Park Pavilion. The family would like to extend a special thank-you to Dr. R. C. Patel and the nurses, doctors and ambulance attendants at the Gimli Community Health Centre for the compassion and kindness shown to us in this very difficult time. Also a big thank-you to all of our family and friends for all the phone calls, visits, gifts, and unending support.
