JOSEPH BENOIT (BEN) STE. MARIE 1915 - 2006 It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Joseph Benoit Ste. Marie, on Thursday, June 29, 2006. He was sadly predeceased by his loving wife Pauline Lischynski on February 24, 2002. Much-loved father of Lorraine (Joseph Padulo) of Naples, FL and Johnson, Vermont; Edward (Colleen Hayes) and Denis (Barbara Olson) of Ottawa and Elaine (Gordon McCulloch) of Calgary. Cherished grandfather of 12 grandchildren, Chris Padulo (Shelby Smith) of Hyde Park, Vermont, Greg Padulo (Kathleen Steele) of Toronto, Warren and Paul, Jackie and Rachelle, Jeff and Michelle Ste. Marie of Ottawa, Kirstin, Meghan, Niall and Camille McCulloch of Calgary. Proud great-grandfather of his two great-grandchildren, Benn and Neve Padulo of Toronto. Respected brother of Annette (Lou Guertin), Fred (Irma Boivin), George (Marguerite Baudry), Emile (Emily Boros), Cecile (Ben Cloutier) and predeceased by his brother Jerry and his sisters, Bernie Therrien, Irene Pitre and Delia Lapointe. He will be greatly missed by his nephews and nieces and remembered fondly by his many friends. Born in Winnipeg, MB, Ben and Annette, the oldest of 10 children, were the main providers for his family during the Depression. He proudly served in the Royal Canadian Air Force during the Second World War stationed in the Charlotte Islands. In retirement from Air Canada in Montreal, he and Pauline enjoyed many years with family and friends at Stonewall Acres in New York. He was a loyal member of the Royal Canadian Legion and an active member of the Knights of Columbus. He served his church and his community, especially Meals on Wheels in Ottawa. Over the years, he was an avid bowler and curler with the Legion. He participated and was recognized as one of the oldest members of the Orleans Fitness Centre and The Breakfast Club Ben was a man of many talents: his cooking skills legendary, given his ability to incinerate anything and everything, also his assistance in the potty training of is grandchildren, thereby setting back their emotional development several years. He was a product of his time and his generation, unfailingly generous of his time and talent, hard working, and devoted to his family. At the end, Ben was frail, but his spirit and great heart remained undiminished. Sleep well, Ben. A Mass in Memory of Ben will be celebrated Tuesday, July 4 at Divine Infant Church, 6658 Bilberry Dr., Orleans at 11:00 a.m. In memoriam donations the St-Vincent de Paul, 1273 Welling St., Ottawa, ON K1Y 3A6 would be appreciated.
