LAURA AILEEN MARTIN (nee ROSS) Peacefully in her sleep, Laura Aileen Martin passed away on June 30, 2006 at the age of 82. She was predeceased by her husband Norman in March 2006 after 61 years of marriage and her son Gregg in March 1998. Aileen was born on August 12, 1923 on the family farm at Hazelridge, MB. The family later moved to St. James, MB where she received her education. In 1944 she married Norman who was serving with the RAF at Carberry. After the war they first lived in Charleswood where they started their family. They later moved to East Kildonan and finally to Transcona in 1956 where they remained until this year. Aileen had three sons, Wayne (Sally), Gregg (Nancy), and Neil (Jan). She was grandmother to Nigel (Nicole), Jonathan (Tiana), Melanie (Philip), Travis and Jayne. This past year she became a great grandmother to Nevayah and Conner. Both babies delighted Aileen with their smiles and little reaching hands. Aileen is also survived by her brothers Eldon (Carol) and Victor (Ardelle), sisters Eunice, Norma, Janice (Jack), Adele (Mitch) and sister-in-laws Eva and Mary. The family wishes to thank the home care staff girls who enabled Mum and Dad to stay in their own home until Dad's death in March. We would also like to thank the staff at Beacon Hill Lodge and later Concordia Place who cared for mum the last few months. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to a charity of one's choice. Services will be held Wednesday, July 5 at 11:00 a.m. at the Wheeler Funeral Home, 211 Regent West in Transcona. Reverend John Friesen will officiate.
