Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDONALD SIGVARD MATTSON November 2, 1934 - July 3, 2006 It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Donald, our beloved husband, father and grandfather on July 3, 2006, at 71 years of age, after a year long battle with cancer. Don is survived by his wife of 49 years June, and his daughter Sandra Pratt (Cam Fraser). He will be lovingly remembered by his four grandchildren, Christina Walsh (K.C. Murray); Melanie, Courtney and Alexandra Pratt. Don is also survived by his brothers, Earl (Madeline) of Winnipeg, Ivan (Laura) of Badger, MB and their families; and two uncles, Arne Berg of Grunthal, MB and Sigvard Berg (Millie) of Piney, MB and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Don was predeceased by his parents, Einar (1987) and Ingeborg (1988) and his mother-in-law Emma Thompson (1989). Also predeceasing their father were four children, a daughter at birth (1959), a son at birth (1963), a daughter Nancy Dawn at 18 months of age (1970) and a daughter Maureen Donna at 33 years of age in 1999. Don was born at Vita, MB and raised on the family farm south of Piney, MB - less than a mile from the United States border. He attended Piney South School and started his 35+ career with Manitoba Department of Highways in the southeast area when No. 12 Highway was built in the 1950s. He retired from the Department of Highways in February 1991 after spending most of his years in and around the City of Winnipeg. From 1988 to 2001 Don enjoyed either part or full time winter life in their Arizona homes - and made many lasting friendships from these southern sojourns. The family would like to thank CancerCare Manitoba; Dr. C. Chapnick and staff; Palliative Care and Homecare Co-ordinators and all the home care workers who helped care for him at home these last few weeks. To all our neighbours and friends and relatives, thank you for your support and visits. To Pastor Ron Vert of Gimli Lutheran Church - our gratitude for all your comfort and guidance in the past few weeks. A memorial service to celebrate the life of Donald Mattson will be held on Thursday, July 6 at 2:00 p.m. at Gimli New Horizons 55+ Activity Centre - 17 North Colonization Road (via 3rd Avenue North) in Gimli with Judy Limpright, United Church Minister officiating. Reception to follow at the same location. As per Don's wishes, cremation has already taken place. A private interment at a later date will be arranged at the family plot in Menisino, MB. Flowers are gratefully declined. Friends, if they so desire, may make a donation to Palliative Care in his memory in care of Interlake (Northeast) District Palliative Care, Box 250, 120 - 6th Avenue, Gimli, MB R0C 1B0.
