Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARGARET HELEN SIMPSON (nee MORRIS) It is with knowing that our mother is in a better place, that we are able to accept her death. Mom passed away at Golden Links Lodge on July 2, 2006, where she has been a resident since 1999. Mom was born in Chatham, NB on March 3, 1922, the daughter of Iona and Roy Morris. She married George Blair Simpson and together raised their five children, Kenneth (Linda) of Calgary, Carol Hughes (George) of Winnipeg, Robert (Rowena) of Nackawic, NB, Byron (Beth) of Morinville, AB and Wendy Gainsborough (Laurence) of Winnipeg. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and two brothers, Earl Morris (Denny) of Duncan, BC and Sterling Morris (Sylvia) of London, ON. She was predeceased by her husband George in 1979; sisters, Ida, Mabel, Edna and Nina; and brothers, Clarence and Don. Mom was a member of Calvin Presbyterian Church, Chatham, NB and attended Covenant Reformed Presbyterian Church in Newcastle, NB and attended St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Winnipeg. She was a proud and productive Rebekah for 58 years, joining Silver Links Lodge No. 61 of Chatham in 1948 and was an associate of Queen Esther Lodge since moving to Winnipeg in 1984. She was a natural leader and worked her way up though the organization to become the District Deputy, and attended Grand Lodge on numerous occasions. Mom had a beautiful contralto voice and under the guidance of Mrs. Henderson, she developed her love of music, singing in the church choir since age 12. After a few music lessons, she became a self taught organist and played for several churches over the years. As her children grew she passed on her love of what she called good music , opera being her favourite. She involved her children in the Miramichi Music Festival and the Miramichi Choral Society, taking part in many musical productions. Music was her passion, but sports came a close second. She and Dad followed the boys around the province with their hockey tournaments. She took a great interest in her grandchildren's' sports, voice and instrument lessons and school band concerts. - A lasting legacy to her family. Although she missed her beloved Miramichi River, she embraced the local music culture by attending the Manitoba Opera, Winnipeg, Symphony Orchestra and the Winnipeg Philharmonic Choir. She was an avid sports fan and supported the Winnipeg Jets, the Toronto Blue Jays and had great memories of the Chatham Ironmen Baseball team and the Miramichi Beavers hockey team. Mom's commitment to her family was very strong, and she always stressed the importance of family ties, and maintaining that bond, no matter what. We have her to thank for that. A special thanks to the caring staff of Golden Links Lodge Personal Care Home (1 North and the Special Needs Unit). In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Salvation Army, or to Golden Links Personal Care Home, 2280 St. Mary's Rd., Winnipeg, MB R2M 4A5. A memorial service will be held at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, 709 St. Mary's Rd., Winnipeg, Friday, July 7 at 3:00 p.m. Rev. Martha McDowell officiating. Reception following service.
