Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARY HALLIDAY (nee BALLA) Mary Halliday passed away peacefully on July 4, 2006 at Fred Douglas Lodge. She was 99 years old. Mary is survived by her grandson Richard Banack and partner Cecile Foster; great-grandson Jason Banack and wife Jennifer Banack; and her youngest brother Harold Balla and wife Beverly Balla. She will also be missed by her extended family and friends. Mary was predeceased by her only child, Geraldine Banack who passed away in 2004. Mary's husband, Harry Halliday passed away in 1989. She was the first born of seven children and was predeceased by her siblings, Eusik, Johnie, Kay, Annette and Olga. Mary was born in 1907 in Winnipeg and grew up on Arlington Street surrounded by the prairie. Her parents emigrated from Ukraine in 1905, her mother Anna and father Nicholas. Mary enjoyed pitching for baseball, being involved in her church, choir, and playing in a mandolin orchestra. Mary married Harry in 1930 and had one daughter Geraldine. Mary worked at Globe Bedding and Eatons in the fancy embroidery department. She enjoyed raising Geraldine and later her two nieces, Joanie and Nancy. She always had a big garden at the back of her house and was still gardening into her 90s. Mary will be missed by her family, friends, neighbours from Sinclair Park and the friends she made in Fred Douglas Lodge. Mary's family would like to sincerely thank the very caring staff on Evergreen Unit, Fred Douglas Lodge. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, July 8, at 12:00 noon at Cropo Funeral Chapel with Rev. Father Kouts officiating. Interment will follow in Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. Prayers will be Friday, July 7, at 7:30 p.m. also at Cropo, 1442 Main Street. Pallbearers will be Jason Banack, Greg Balla, Maurice Bourret, Dennis Boychuk, Sam Smilski and Aaron Balla. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Fred Douglas Lodge Society Foundation, 1275 Burrows Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R2X 0B8. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044
