Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryFREDERICK MEAKIN Peacefully, after a lengthy illness, Fred passed away Monday, July 3, 2006 at the Grace Hospital, at the age of 86 years. Fred is survived by his sons, Doug (Jean), Chuck, Bob (Carol) and Jim (Shelley). He will be fondly remembered by his five grandsons, John, Dave, Scott, Mike and Kris; and one granddaughter Kellie. Fred was predeceased by his wife Jane in May, 2003 after 55 years of marriage. He was also predeceased by his parents; and brothers, Len, Wilf and Arthur (Red); and sister Edith Mason. The youngest son of Fred, Sr. and Lily Meakin, Fred was born in Winnipeg on May 7, 1920. He spent his childhood in Elmwood and East Kildonan. Fred served in the Second World War with the Engineering Corp. On May 10, 1947, he married Jane Gunn. His working career was with Sherwin-Williams Co as a Warehouse Foreman. His retirement years were spent in Vancouver and Chilliwack. Fred and Jane spent their retirement years traveling the United States, Canada, Europe and Australia. Many winters were also spent in Arizona. They returned to Winnipeg in 1983, to be near the family. His last five years were spent at Heritage House in downtown Winnipeg. A Celebration of Fred's Life will be held on Friday, July 7 at 2:00 p.m. in Silver Heights United Church, 199 Garrioch Ave. (corner of Mount Royal Rd. and Ness Ave.). For those who wish, parking will be available in the Seventh-Day Adventist Church parking lot located on Ness Avenue. Our family would like to thank the dedicated staff at Heritage House for the wonderful care they gave Fred and his feathered companion Percy. In lieu of flowers, donations in Fred's memory may be made to a charity of your choice or to the Fred Douglas Foundation (Heritage House), 1275 Burrows Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R2X 0B8.
