HERBERT JOHN CHRISTIAN On Sunday, June 18, 2006, Herbert John Christian of Kenville, MB, passed away in the Swan Valley Health Centre, after a courageous battle with cancer. Herb received his education in the Swan River Valley, followed by a Diploma in Agriculture (1965) and Degree in Agriculture (1973) from the University of Manitoba. He earned the Governor General's Medal for excellence in the Diploma program. He farmed in the Swan Valley and was Postmaster in Kenville until his death. Herb treasured his relationships with his family and friends, and spent long hours visiting or talking on the phone to them. Two topics of conversation were closest to his heart: farming and his deep faith in God. He is survived by his wife Rev. Shirl Christian; his daughter Robin and son-in-law, Jeff Blythe; his mother Mary Christian; siblings, Mel (Phyllis), Linda White (Peter), Betty Filipowich (Dan), and Gordon (Marjeanne); as well as brother-in-law Bob Thom and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father Robert Christian, as well as his mother-in-law Joy and father-in-law Dave Thom. Funeral services took place Friday, June 23 at St. James Anglican Church, Swan River, Rt. Rev. James Njegovan and Rev. Nigel Packwood officiating. Herb was escorted to his final resting place at Birchwood Cemetery by four of his and Jeff's John Deere tractors. Paull Funeral Home of Swan River was in care of arrangements.
