MARY (MAE) SCOTT (nee ADAMS) Mae Scott, aged 94 years, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on July 5, 2006. She will be missed and lovingly remembered by her daughters, Gail Paseska and Sharon Mulder (Bill Martin); her beloved grandchildren, Melanie, Ethan, Jan (Melissa) and their father Jan; great-grandchild McKenzie; brother Jack Adams of Calgary and extended family members. She was predeceased by her husband Bob in May, 1988. Mae was born in Winnipeg on March 16, 1912 and grew up at 740 Home St. in the house her father built. After graduating from Daniel MacIntyre Collegiate Institute she worked as a stenographer in downtown Winnipeg, walking to work daily from the house at 740'. Mae met Bob, the love of her life, at Grand Beach back in the days of the Boardwalk, the Dance Hall and the Moonlight Express. As Dad served with the RCAF they spent the first years of their marriage at various air force bases across Manitoba where Mum established life long relationships. After the war, they settled in the West End of Winnipeg. Mae was an avid outdoorswoman, joining Bob in canoeing, fishing, snowshoeing, skating and nature. They later shared these passions with their daughters, with yearly camping trips to British Columbia and Alberta. Mum was a knitter extraordinaire and the birth of her grandchildren provided many opportunities to get out the knitting books. Melanie, Jan and Ethan were all outfitted in her creations! She loved to bake and there were always delectable desserts and cookies for children and grandchildren. A favourite treat was her Granny Scott Scones'. When her vision, hearing and general health declined she moved to the country and her grandchildren were blessed with having Granny live with them. She became Granny to many of her grandchildren's friends. She loved her Granny Suite', her gazebo and the gardens and she spent many a summer afternoon sitting by the pond. In the winter she would bundle up and do her walking' in the cold fresh air of her gazebo. Her Talking Books' from CNIB brought her hours of pleasure as she had been an avid reader. In spite of her limited vision, hearing impairment and frailty, she never stopped enjoying life, people and nature. The family wishes to extend an enormous thank you to the Manitoba Home Care Program, in particular the staff of South Eastman Health, Doris, Elaine and Della, who provided our mother with such excellent, compassionate care during her years in Dufresne. Mum was a very flexible woman... to a point... but her cup of tea was very important to her and Home Care Staff quickly learned the rules of her seven minute tea! Mum always showed her appreciation with her trademark Thank you, Thank you, Thank you'. Mum spent the last years of her life at Oakview Place where she also received excellent care. A thank you to all staff who cared for our mother and recognized her gentle soul. Cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held. Friends and neighbours are invited to a celebration of her life at the family home in Dufresne on Saturday, July 15 between 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. For travelling directions please contact 878-9239. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian National Institute of the Blind (CNIB) or the Alzheimer's Society of Manitoba. We love you Granny. MOTHER You can only have one mother, loving, kind and true, No other friend in all the world will be so true to you. For all her love and kindness She asked nothing in return. If all the world deserted us To our Mother we could turn. For those of you who have a Mother Treasure her with care, For you will never know her value Til you see that she's not there. To hear her voice To see her smile To sit and talk with her a while To be together in the same old way Would be our dearest wish today. Mom, rest in Peace. We love you. Thomson Funeral Home, 669 Broadway, Winnipeg, Telephone (204) 783-7211 in care of arrangements.
