JESSIE (JAY) McDOWELL Peacefully on July 4, 2006, Jessie (Jay) Elizabeth McDowell, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, passed away surrounded by her family. Born January 25, 1921 at Kelloe, MB, to Samuel and Agnes Locke. She is survived by her children, sons Terry (Maria), Bruce (Eileen), Keith (Cathie), all of Winnipeg, Kevin (Hyun Joo); and daughter Nancy (Greg) Lieberman, both of Vancouver, BC; her grandchildren Mark, Aven, Lisa, Mea, Kara, Jessica, Chris, Kyle, Kelsey, Ki Yun and Ha Yun; her great grandchildren Ula, Kurt, Natalie, Tyler, Abbey and Matthew. Also one sister, Marie (Doug) Simpson; and two brothers-in-law, Doug (Claire) McDowell and Reg Stevenson. She was predeceased by her husband Robert (Bob) McDowell; one great grandson Miles; her sisters Anne and Audrey; and her brother Ross. After moving to Winnipeg she met Dad and they were married in 1941 and together they raised five children which was her full time job but she always found time to volunteer and to help others. She was active in Oxford United Church, the Eastern Star, Charleswood Legion Branch 100 and Riding For The Disabled as well as various charities. Mom was kind, loving, hard working, strong willed and patient. She was the foundation of our family. Her greatest joy was family gatherings, especially with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. After Dad's retirement they travelled extensively in Canada, the U.S.A. and Europe. But she always enjoyed the simple pleasure of walks in the country enjoying nature and driving the back roads just to see where they lead. A memorial service will be held Monday, July 10, at 12:30 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave., Winnipeg. According to Mom' s wishes, cremation has taken place. The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of Deer Lodge Centre and Golden West Centennial Lodge for their compassion and care. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba would be appreciated. May the road rise to meet you, May the wind be always at your back, May the sun shine warm upon your face, The rains fall soft upon your fields and, Until we meet again, May God hold you in the palm of His hand. Chapel Lawn Funeral Home in care of arrangements.
