DOUGLAS BRUCE FREDERICK SMEATON With deepest sadness, we announce the passing of our husband and father, Doug Smeaton, aged 57 years, of Springfield Municipality on Friday, July 7, 2006. Doug left his wife Bonnie; daughter Adrienne (partner Dan) and son Todd (fiancée Kate) peacefully early in the morning after a lengthy and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Along with his immediate family, he is mourned by his mother Vera; brothers, Duncan (Sheila), David, Harry and sister Heather Thatcher (Kerry) and their families. Doug was predeceased by his father James in 1978. Doug was born in Toronto, ON, was educated in Winnipeg and moved to Springfield with his wife and young children where they have lived ever since. Doug spent most of his career at Equinox Industries where his skill, commitment and integrity fostered many friends and valued colleagues. While his work was very important to him, his true passions were his family, his friends, his piano and his toys. Nothing excited him more than being able to share a new snowmobile, car, tractor or technological gadget with those he loved. Many, many people enhanced their lives through their friendship with Doug. This became even more true as Doug dealt with the many challenges of his illness with incredible strength, foresight and love for those nearest to him. Together, Bonnie and Doug supported each other, loved each other and made the very most of the time they had. Dougie, you left us far too soon and we will miss you forever. We are so very grateful for the time we had. Doug's family expresses their gratitude for the skill, kindness and compassionate support of the staff of the Palliative Care Program at St. Boniface Hospital. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Doug's memory to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation, (Pancreatic Research), ON109 - 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9.
