LORRAINE KEMPTHORNE Died suddenly Sunday, July 9, 2006 Lorraine was born October 4, 1934 on the family farm southwest of Holland, MB to Bill and Bernice Langman. Lorraine was 4 lbs., 4 oz. and wrapped in cotton batting, placed in a shoe box, kept in the warming oven, and fed with an eyedropper in the beginning. She attended school in Holland until 1953 and moved to Brandon to take her nurses training at Brandon General Hospital. After graduating, Lorraine moved to Killarney in April of 1956. In February of 1957, she met Bill and nine months later, they were married. In August of 1958, Lorraine gave birth to Karen, and two years later, Brent was born. Lorraine continued nursing at Killarney Hospital until moving to the Killarney Medical Centre in 1969. Here, Lorraine touched many lives in a positive way. She enjoyed her work there and the people who she worked with. After 40 years of dedicated nursing service, Lorraine decided it was time to retire. She and Bill enjoyed travelling and spending time with them and playing games. She was predeceased by her husband of almost 45 years, Bill. Later, she found strength and companionship with a long time family friend Buck McFarlane. Lorraine is survived by her partner Buck; her daughter Karen (Lory) Wowk; son Brent (Verna); and five grandsons, Nicholas, Travis, and Nathan Layh, and Curtis and fiance Michelle and Clinton Kempthorne; son-in-law Harry Layh; four sisters, Mae (Pete) Kozak, Shirley (Gerald) Wilson, Linda (Gerry) Bray and Joyce (Colin) Wilson; sisters-in-law, Edith (Walter) Hobson and Maureena Weir; and brothers-in-law, Murray and Ernest (Pat) Kempthorne; and numerous nieces and nephews. If friends so desire, donations may be made to the Diabetic Association Society or Heart and Stroke Foundation. KILLARNEY FUNERAL HOME entrusted with arrangements.
