DOUGLAS (DOUG) MITCHELL December 19, 1914 - July 10, 2006 It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our dear father, grandfather, great-grandfather, Douglas, on July 10, 2006 at the age of 91. Remaining to cherish his memory are his sons, Barry (Bev), John (Kathy), and Wayne; his grandchildren, Devin, Amanda, Kendra, Melanie and great-grandson; Owen. He was predeceased by his wife Alice, in 1984 and subsequently his sister Myrtle. Dad was born in Hatzic Prairie, BC and found his way to Winnipeg in the mid thirties where he met the love of his life, Alice LeClaire. They were married shortly before the war and soon after, Dad went off to active duty to serve in the Second World War as a gunner in heavy artillery overseas from 1939 to 1945. He served his country valiantly and carried battle scars' all his life to prove it. Dad was a truck driver for most of his life, employed at Bigger brothers, CP communications and finally Merchant's Consolidated when he retired in 1984. After retirement, Doug shared good times with his many chums at the Cambridge Hotel. Dad, we know when Mom passed, all you wanted was to be with her, when she died, a great big chunk of you went with her. Now your wish has been granted and you are now together again, young, beautiful and happy. We wish to thank all the staff at Deer Lodge Centre, for the kindness, care and compassion shown to our father, especially staff of T5, veterans ward who always said he had a devilish grin and a twinkle in his eye! If friends so desire donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermont Avenue, Room ON1160, Winnipeg, MB, R3E 0V9. Funeral Service will be held on Friday, July 14, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at Desjardins Funeral Chapel, 357 DesMeurons Street. Viewing will begin at 10:30 a.m. until time of service.
