Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMICHAEL (MIKE) JOHN MILIAN On July 13, 2006, after a lengthy illness, Michael John Milian, left us peacefully at the age of 85. Remaining to cherish Mike's memory are his loving wife Doris of 57 years; children, Michele, Larry (Margaret), Ted (Sarah) and Steve (Jackie); grandchildren, David (Joann), Maralee (Chris), Rebekah, Elizabeth, Ksenia and Kiernan; great-grandchildren, Hailey and Hunter. Mike was born in a village near Lvov, Poland on October 26, 1920 and grew up on the family farm. As a teenager Mike attended agricultural school and was also a military cadet. Mike loved to play football (soccer) and volleyball. During the Second World War, Mike served in Poland's Resistance Army and attained the rank of Sergeant. From 1945 to 1947 Mike continued his military service. In 1948 Mike immigrated to Canada, settled in Winnipeg and began his 35 year career with the Canadian Pacific Railway. During this time Mike met the love of his life, Doris. They married and raised a family. Mike retired in 1983. His passions included time at the family cabin and walking his beloved dog Shadow. He also loved to cross-country ski, swim and take long walks in Kildonan Park. Mike continued to be known for his physical power. The arrival of his grandchildren was one of the greatest joys in Mike's life. Mike was active in his church and devoted many hours to: Knights of Columbus (lifetime member), St. John Cantius Society (lifetime member), St. John Cantius Seniors Club, Polish Legion Branch No. 246, member of CPR Pensioners Association and St. Josephs Residence (volunteer). The family would like to thank Sister Zoe, the staff of unit 5A - Holy Family Personal Care Home and the many people who sent their love to Mike during this difficult time. Funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, July 17 at St. John Cantius Roman Catholic Church, 846 Burrows Ave. with Rev. Fr. Henryk Uczniak officiating. Interment will follow at Holy Ghost Cemetery. Viewings will be Sunday, July 16, 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. as well as Monday, July 17, 9:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at St. John Cantius Roman Catholic Church. Flowers gratefully declined. Donations in Mike's memory may be made to the Parkinson's Society of Manitoba, 302-171 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 1M4.
